Overheard in the office:
Investigator on the phone : Hi, I am doing this study, and I would like to talk to you about your Rectal cancer
Participant : I don't have rectal cancer. I have Colo-rectal cancer
Investigator on the phone : Yes, it's the same. Your cancer is in your rectum.
Participant (screams) : I have cancer in my Ass?
If you are wondering how the participant didn't notice, the rectal cancer was diagnosed during a routine screening.

Letting the cat out of the bag, or cancer out of the ass, I guess.
ReplyDeleteThe investigators at my office have called people, only to answer that they did not know they had cancer. We found out that they did actually know, but they were in denial, or, they didnt want to participate in the study.
ReplyDeleteIt's even weirder if you are combing case files for potential study participants and find a friend or relative on it.
I wonder where HIPAA figures in that scenario.
